Singer Tenille Arts is a finalist in the 2016 Discovery Program for the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), along with five other artists or groups.
In a posting on her Facebook page recently, she said, “I will be participating and showcasing during Music Industry Discovery Week at the end of April in Toronto, and I will be performing in the CCMA Discovery Showcase during Country Music Week in London, Ont., in September with the chance to win the CCMA Discovery Award.”
The Discovery Program was introduced in 2013 as a national initiative, developed to educate and support artists in their pursuit of a career in the country music industry.
This program enhanced the former CCMA New Artist Showcase to include bringing all selected finalists to Toronto for Music Industry Discovery Week.
During this week, Tenille and the other finalists learn in-depth about the music business and artist development through industry-led information sessions and seminars, culminating with an private industry-only showcase.
Tenille will be paired with an established country music artist for a mentorship opportunity, in addition to getting the opportunity to perform at the CCMA Discovery Showcase, event held during Country Music Week.
“I cannot wait to learn from all of the industry professionals and grow as an artist during this process. This opportunity is something I’ve been hoping to participate in since it started, so I feel very lucky to be a 2016 CCMA Discovery Program finalist, and I can’t wait to meet the other finalists,” she said.
Tenille has performed before during CCMA Week, as she performed six times during the week held in Edmonton.
She is currently writing and recording for her first album in Nashville with Adam Wheeler, Matt Rovey and Hal Oven.
Her first single, “Breathe”, a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, went to No. 6 on the country iTunes chart.
Tenille will be performing twice in Weyburn this spring, putting on a show on Sunday, May 1, at the T.C. Douglas Centre, and again at the eighth annual Night Out for Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser on Friday, May 6 at McKenna Hall. Tenille will be performing along with Codie Prevost for this annual event.
