Heather van der Breggen, an ArtFarm board member, was blown away by the success of the third annual Art Farm held on June 13. A record number of artists and people were in attendance. This year the ArtFarm showcased 40 artist booths and an additional five booths, which were either non-profit or food related. The attendance at this year’s event reached nearly 3,000 people, which is over three times the amount of the 700 in attendance at the first event in 2013.
“It was beyond our wildest dream.” said Rickee-Lee Webster, Articulturist and Chair of the Art Farm board.
Facebook commentss that were made to ArtFarm board members the next day sang the praises of the event.
“So, I got to experience ArtFarm in a different way this year. Standing at the cupcake table I got to see soooo many people that I may have passed by in the hustle and bustle of it all. The music was amazing and I was just plain happy to see so many other people walking around and being happy! I love this environment that you and your team create for all of us to enjoy. Truly an annual event I look forward to,” said one happy attendee.
Highlights of the day included the artists’ displays, children’s activities and music. The displays varied from photographic work, jewellery and paintings to handmade sculptures and furniture. Children were kept busy with activities such as painting, colouring, pony rides, bubbles, balloon animals and a photo booth. Musical entertainment was provided by artists such as Small City Blues, Tylan Charlton and Tree Folk.
The day proved to be a great success with the many hours spent planning and preparing by the members of the ArtFarm board. To view a gallery of photos taken at the event, visit www.weyburnthisweek.com.
