Some people may think that being the beginning of the week, Monday is the busiest and toughest day. Then add brutally cold weather. But apparently, it wasn’t a problem for over 100 people who came to the Legion Hall on Feb. 25 to listen to the Winnipeg folk trio Red Moon Road. The band was performing within 2018-19 Estevan Concert Series.
The musicians played for about two hours with one intermission, when they invited the guests to join them for coffee. They also thanked Estevan for arranging the usual weather for them, which made them feel like home.
The Red Moon Road members are Daniel Jordan, Sheena Rattai and Daniel Péloquin-Hopfner. All of them sing and use various instruments to make their music sound unique and detailed, telling stories as well as they do.
The night was filled with laughs, music and joy. Talented storytellers the Red Moon Road turned the concert into a mixture of the best of stand-up comedy and a genuine and sincere folk music performance.
The band has been playing together for over eight years. They first hit the road together in an old Volvo wagon. They put 554,000 kilometers on it and were laughing about how they managed to stay together after all this time in a very limited space.
CDs were available for sale, as well as T-shirts and mustache wax that is used and promoted by both Daniels, who admitted that they both have a fear of barbers.
The Concert Series is presented by the Estevan Arts Council and are aiming to promote arts in the Energy City. The 2019-20 season concerts were announced during the concert. Series tickets will be available at the Heather Rankin concert that will take place on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Estevan Comprehensive School.
