Another successful year for Crocus 80 Theatre was reported during their annual general meeting, held Wednesday night at the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre.
Another successful year for Crocus 80 Theatre was reported during their annual general meeting, held Wednesday night at the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre.
"This was a very busy year for Crocus 80 Theatre," said outgoing president, Sabrina Kraft. "We returned to TheatreOne competition for the first time last year, with 'The Script'. The competition was a great learning experience for the group."
"Then in late November 2012, we staged our annual dinner theatre, 'Murder Most Fouled Up' under the direction of Gwen Wright. Once again we had a lot of businesses, groups and individuals attending the dinner theatre."
"We then headed into casting for 'Murder is Bad, But Monday Can Kill You', the dinner theatre production for the Weyburn Agricultural Society, under the direction of Neal Keefe."
"A huge production was then staged for Weyburn's centennial celebration, "Circle the Crops", written by Edward Willett, an award-winning author and Crocus 80 alumni."
"We had a number of new members join Crocus 80 Theatre during the summer, and they were on stage for the universal premiere of the production. All three performances were at capacity, and we had to turn people away from the doors."
"During the summer, it was also our very first youth summer theatre program, under the direction of Bernadette Green," said Kraft. "This is a program that we hope to continue to offer."
"As we end the year, Crocus 80 Theatre is returning to TheatreOne competition again, with the production 'Collateral Bodies', under the direction of Charline Doney."
"This is a powerful drama, and I am quite excited that we are able to produce it in Weyburn, Estevan and Carlyle."
"I am so excited that Liz Nikkel is taking the reins as president for the upcoming year. We have a supportive board, and I know that this upcoming year will be another successful one."
The new executive for Crocus 80 Theatre is Liz Nikkel, president; Connie Nightingale, vice president; Sabrina Kraft, past president; Freda Lautner, treasurer; Charline Doney, secretary; and members at large Jessica Jack and Martin Jewell.
Right after the meeting, there was a casting call for December's dinner theatre production.
Crocus 80 Theatre has chosen "Never Kiss a Naughty Nanny" by Michael Parker for this year's play. The setting of the play is "The House of the Future".
Not only do the characters have to deal with interesting gadgets, most of which don't work; but many other twists and turns between the characters themselves. This full-length comedy will be directed by Juliette Storle, and the assistant director is Pat Petersen.

[email protected]. "Never Kiss a Naughty Nanny" will be staged a the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion for dinner theatres from Thursday to Saturday, December 5 to 7.
Later in November, tickets will become available at the Legion to the general public. A dessert matinee will also be staged on Sunday, December 8.
