The focus of Southeast College’s “Mentors ‘N Manicures” initiative is to discover unique ways to help students succeed.
Launched in 2017, the program matches students from the College’s Hairstylist program with female community leaders from Weyburn and area. The mentorship program consisted three sessions to assist and develop leadership potential and build specific skill sets necessary to thrive as leaders in business in the local communities. Mentors are in turn treated to beauty treatments of their choice courtesy of the students.
“The College’s Mentors and Manicures program is a unique opportunity offered to our Hairstylist students,” stated Jeff Richards, VP of Strategic Development with Southeast College. “The intent of the program is to provide our students with an opportunity to better understand what it takes to pursue their professional and personal goals.”
One of this year’s supporters of the program, Jordan Szczecinski has this to say about the program on behalf of the Weyburn Oilwomen’s Association, “As our mission statement outlines, the Weyburn Oilwomen support the education and advancement of our community. With strong values supporting the empowerment of women, we knew that Mentors & Manicures was exactly the type of program that we needed to be involved with. By creating a group of focused, hardworking women who take time to pass that knowledge onto others, the Mentors & Manicures program is sending stronger, more confident and encouraged women out into the world and the workforce, and there is nothing more powerful than that.”
Applications for the 2018-2019 Hairstylist program are currently being accepted. Students that apply prior to June 30th will receive a Southeast College Entrance Award.
