Local artists are encouraged to book a table and join the “pARTy on the Hill”, which will be held at the Signal Hill Arts Centre during the Weyburn Wheat Festival.
“The ‘pARTy on the Hill’ is our summer art fair. We will be set up outside the Signal Hill Arts Centre on Saturday, August 12,” said Regan Lanning, curator for the Weyburn Arts Council.
“We will have a number of local artists who will be selling their artwork. We will have pottery, photography, paintings, and many more items available for purchase,” said Lanning.
The Weyburn Arts Council also has three different exhibits on display during the summer months. “Flowers”, metal art by Jaren Bell, is displayed in the second floor gallery of the Signal Hill Arts Centre. “Oxen to Oil”, a photography exhibition by Valerie Zink, is located in the Allie Griffin Art Gallery.
In the Weyburn Credit Union art gallery, the top winners of the 2017 James Weir People’s Choice winners have artworks on display. This includes photography by Nicole Griffin, Elisa Fawcett and Don Beahm.
An exciting art project will be premiered along the Weyburn boardwalk in September. This Canada 150 boardwalk banner project will be on display for two years. “This is a completely local project. All the banners were designed by local artists, the banners themselves will be made local, and the walking tour for the banner project will be created locally,” said Lanning.
The Weyburn Arts Council is also starting to plan for the Culture Days. They have chosen a photograph for a collaborative mural, which will be completed during a workshop offered during Culture Days. “Last year, we used a photograph from local photographer Todd White and this year we have chosen one taken by local photographer Amanda Payne,” said Lanning.
