About 35 people from Bengough and surrounding communities joined members of the Sun Country Regional Health Authority on Monday, Oct. 28 in Bengough to discuss health care issues.
The meeting was the first of four sessions of the Health Authority's Community Leadership Network to be held this fall. The Network was created last year to invite elected members of all municipalities in the Region's boundaries to meetings in the spring and fall to discuss health care issues. The meetings were opened to the public in 2013.
"We look forward to this opportunity to talk with the elected members across the Region and the residents of our communities, and particularly to answer their questions about our services," says Marilyn Charlton, Chair, Sun Country Regional Health Authority.
Presentations at this year's meetings discuss the Region's strategy for long term care facilities and its new focus on strengthening the care of people with dementia in light of the growing population developing that disease.
CEO Marga Cugnet introduced the Wall Walk to members of the public. The Wall Walk is a visual display of detailed progress on the Region's projects to improve health care services for the public. It is held weekly in the regional office and is telehealthed to all facilities in the Region so all staff members can hear about progress on the improvement projects.
Members of the public asked questions about the recruitment of more doctors, how to access a new nurse practitioner about to join the Rural West Primary Health Team, and laboratory services.
The next session of the Community Leadership Network will be held in Carlyle Monday November 4 at the Carlyle Memorial Hall, followed by Weyburn on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Tatagwa View and St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan on Thursday Nov. 14. All elected members of the local municipalities and the public are invited to attend.
