It was announced around noon on Monday that Cam Broten had stepped down as leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party.
Theresa Sabourin, Saskatchewan NDP president said she had received his resignation and on behalf of the entire membership of the Saskatchewan NDP, she extended her sincerest thanks to Broten for his leadership over the past three years.
“During his time as leader, Cam has put forward a vision of a Saskatchewan where everyone benefits from our province’s prosperity. His leadership will be missed,” said Sabourin.
“I want to also extend our sincerest thanks to Cam’s partner Ruth and his children Ingrid, Clara and Gudrun.”
A joint meeting between NDP caucus members and the party’s provincial council will be held on April 23 to select an interim leader.
In keeping with the party’s constitution, the provincial NDP council will determine the next steps for selecting a permanent leader.
