The Browning 4-H Beef Club members and families moved into the Estevan fair grounds on July 3 for the weigh-ins for the members’ steers. Following that process, club questionnaires were completed.
The Achievement Day activities began on July 4 with Wes Mack serving as our judge for the day with Chad Mokelky working as the ring man.
This year the club consisted of Cloverbud members Brenden Lischka, Cayden Lischka, Rowyn Shier and Brenna Fornwald. The one Junior member is Keara Christensen and the Intermediate members are Alexis Christensen and Gavin Fleck. Senior members include Emilie Craig, Alaura Gress, Ashley Kerslake and Jamie-Lynn Kerslake.
The results posted following the day’s events showed the top speeches were delivered by Cayden Lischka for the Cloverbuds, Keara Christensen as the Junior speaker; Alexis Christensen for the Intermediate class and Jamie-Lynn Kerslake for the Senior members.
Brenna Forwald produced the best record book for the Cloverbuds, Keara was best for Juniors while Alexis and Emilie were tops in the Intermediate and Senior categories.
Questionnaires – Brenden and Cayden Lischka; Rowyn Shier, Brenna Fornwald; Keara for Juniors, Alexis for Intermediates and Emilie for Seniors.
Brenden was the best at judging for the Cloverbuds followed by Keara, Gavin and Emilie in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions, respectively.
For grooming, it was Brenden and Keara agin along with Gavin and Emilie.
The showmanship title also went to those four members.
Emilie captured the overall showperson award and Brenna won the Busy Beaver Award for the hard work she produced throughout the year. She also won the “Learn to do by Doing” Award, based on the 4-H motto. Cayden, Brenden and Rowyn captured those titles for the Cloverbuds.
The high average was won by Keara for the Juniors while Alexis was top average for Intermediates and Ashley was the top Senior average.
The Grand Aggregate Award went to Keara for the Juniors, Alexis for the Intermediates and Emilie in the Senior category. Emilie also won the continuation class award.
The club’s grand champion animals were then selected with the titles going to
Brenna Fornwald for grand champion heifer and female, Emilie Craig for reserve champion female, Brnden Fornwald for grand champion steer while Rowyn Shier had the reserve champion steer. Cloverbud Brenden Lischka had the top homegrown steer.
Then, on Tuesday the regional show was held with judge Tyler Smyth. The Browning club was pitted against members from the Outram-Madigan and Benson 4-H Beef Clubs.
The Browning members’ results showed that in team grooming, Emilie, Gavin and Keara came in third with Cloverbud entrants being Brenden, Cayden, Brenna and Rowyn. The homegrown (top four) went to Brenden. The Best of Five competition saw Emilie finish in third with Alexis, Gavin, Keara, and Brenden joining her from the other age categories.
Brenden picked up a first-place prize for best judging (oral reasons) while Brenna was third.
In the overall points category at the regional show, Brenna was second and Cayden was third.
Gavin was fifth in oral reasoning for Intermediate judging and fourth overall, while in the Senior division, Emilie was third and finished fourth in overall points, while Ashley was fifth in Senior judging, oral reasoning.
Brenna and Rowyn won the 4-H Motto Award at the regional show.
The club issued thanks to their club leaders, Calvin Fornwald and Glenn Gress, saying there were very fortunate to have them serve in that role. They also thanked their parents, families, sponsors and, of course, the bidders and buyers within the local communities who bid on, or purchased their steers during the Rotary Club auction sale held later that same evening.
