SaskPower is warning its customers that phone calls claiming to be from 'SaskPower Billing' is a scam.

A warning has been issued to SaskPower customers regarding a phone scam.

According to a press release from SaskPower, a customer was recently phoned by someone posing as a SaskPower employee who told her to purchase and supply the serial number from a pre-paid power card (not currently sold in Saskatchewan), or a prepaid VISA card. The scammer said the customer's power would be turned off within the hour if she did not cooperate.

The call was made from a 1-800 phone number and the scammer was not successful.

SaskPower noted it never asks customers to purchase pre-paid cards of any kind and that they never email customers asking them to download their statement or provide account information.

Anyone wishing to verify the status of their account can contact SaskPower at 1-888-757-6937.
