The second Wednesday, every month, women with a shared story meet in the Weyburn Public Library at 6:30 p.m.
The women are all fighting cancer or have survived it.
"We support each other," said Sharon Werstuik, who heads the group.
The hour and a half meetings called "Sharing the Journey" allow women a place to tell their stories, describe experiences, share coping strategies, develop friendships, and obtain information about cancer and new and various treatments. All discussions are confidential.
Werstuik described the meetings as encouraging and uplifting.
"People stop and talk to us on the street and say 'it's great you got this going'," said Werstuik of the Sharing the Journey support group.
Donna McLean, who has battled cancer, said the group is "awesome" and was something that was needed in Weyburn. She said the support group offers real people with whom to share stories, feelings, and experiences.
"I wish it would have been organized when I was diagnosed because I didn't know where to go or whom to turn to, but now I do," said McLean, and encouraged women dealing with the same issues to visit the Share the Journey support group.
"Everybody has a different journey," said Werstuik of battling cancer.
She also said she thinks it is important to have a cancer survivors group for women only, because men and women won't talk to each other about some things and have some different experiences as certain types of cancer affect men and women differently.
