A showcase of culture in Weyburn is set to roll out for the fifth annual celebration of "Weyburn Culture Days" for Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27 at various locations around the city.

At the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre, there will be a showcase of heritage, with ethnic displays on the upper level, and ethnic food available on Saturday on the lower level. There will also be a heritage map on display where visitors can "pin your heritage".

At the Signal Hill Arts Centre, there is a free "Drawing People" workshop on Friday, from 5 to 5:50 p.m., or from 6 to 6:50 p.m. by instructor Allan Dotson, an artist from Regina. He teaches drama, storytelling, puppetry, comic creation and game design in Regina schools.

All supplies are included, and interested people will learn useful graphic illustration techniques for drawing people from the imagination.

During the day, classes from schools, from Grades 4 and up, will be taking part in the workshop with Dotson. Most of the available time slots were taken up, with groups of 24 students at a time set to come in.

At the Weyburn Public Library, the art of "Yarn Bombing" will be on display outside the library all weekend, and inside is a quilt display, and a hands-on RCMP display with RCMP uniforms available to try on.

In addition, there will be someone on hand to explain the history of the RCMP for those who are interested. This venue will be open at 2 p.m. at the library.

At the Soo Line Historical Museum, there is free admission to view the displays at the museum on both Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

In addition, they will have tickets available for a draw for $1,000 Co-op gift certificate.

Culture Days is a local, provincial and national celebration of culture that aims to increase the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in cultural activities in their communities. It includes all areas of culture: arts, heritage, multicultural, enthno-cultural, First Nations, Metis and creative industries.
