There will be exciting changes for the Clean-Up Campaign for the City of Weyburn this year.
This year's theme is "Centennial Clean-Up", and was chosen by the Clean-Up Campaign committee during their initial meeting of the year on Feb. 12.
The Clean-Up Campaign is held during the month of May. The campaign promotes recycling, reducing and reusing. Residents of the community are encouraged to work together to help beautify and clean the city.
During the annual Clean-Up Campaign, residents are encouraged to "Nominate their Neighbours", who demonstrate a dedication to keeping their own yard, or their neighbourhood, clean and beautiful.
Further details on this initiative will be released by the City of Weyburn, when they distribute their yearly landfill coupons.
For the younger residents, there is a poster contest that runs during the Clean-Up Campaign. The theme of the poster contest this year is "100 Ways to Keep our City Clean".
Elementary schools in Weyburn will receive information on the posters before May.
The winning posters, along with some others, are displayed for the public to see. This is a great way to get children active in helping the community with the annual clean-up campaign.
The City of Weyburn will also offer a Hazardous Waste Day in late May. The main benefit of this program is that it keeps hazardous waste products out of the landfill.
The collection program focuses on safety, quality and strict regulatory compliance by Envirotec Services staff, and items will either be treated, recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-sound way.
