Chamber announces WEYBEX finalists

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce and WEYBEX sponsors gathered at the Co-op Metro Centre on May 18 for the official announcement of the 2012 finalists. Kim Thorson of Thorson & Horner Law Office was nominated for Business Leader of the Year.

Cory Harkness of Community Futures Sunrise, Sponsors of the New or Expanded Business award, announced the nomination finalists for this category during the WEYBEX finalists press conference on May 18 at the Co-op Metro Centre. Big Jim's Brew Shop, Clean Machine Janitorial, Knibbs & Associates, Souris Valley Industries, Western Financial and Young's Equipment are all up for the New or Expanded Business award. The winner of this award, as well as the winners of the Community Involvement award and Golden Service award, will become eligible to win the Business of the Year award.

The two finalists for the Golden Service award were Home Hardware and Mel's on Third.

Nominated for the Community Involvement award were Access Communications and the Mainil Family of Businesses.

The six finalists for New or Expanded Business were Big Jim's Brew Shop, Clean Machine Janitorial, Knibbs and Associates, Souris Valley Industries, Western Financial and Young's Equipment.

Business Hall of Fame nominees were Access Communications, John and Helen Georgacacos and the RBC Royal Bank of Weyburn.

The Business of the Year award will be chosen from the winners of the Golden Service, Community Involvement and the New or Expanded Business.

The WEBEX awards banquet will take place on Friday, June 8 at McKenna Hall. Tickets are on sale through the Chamber office.
