Masons fingerprinting

Members of the Latomia Masonic Lodge in Weyburn were out visiting the elementary schools in Weyburn last week for their annual fingerprinting campaign.
The Masons carry out the fingerprinting for the Child Identification program, and ensure over 200 kindergarten students get their fingerprints done.
“In the last few years we have opened it up to new students to the community as well,” said Jon Gillies, organizer of the Child ID program.
“The cost is completely covered by the Weyburn Freemasons, with over 40 hours of volunteer time put in to cover all of the schools,” he added.
Once the fingerprints are taken, the forms are then sent home with the children to the parents, who fill out the balance of the information on the Child ID form, including a full description of the child.
Only one set of fingerprints is taken, and it is on the Child ID form that is sent home, noted Gillies.
The forms are kept by the parents in the event that the ID information is ever needed by school or police.
“We hope that this information is never used, but it is there if you need it,” said Gillies.
