The Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress in the 100 block of 11th Street at about 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 27. As police were arriving at the residence the suspect fled in a vehicle and was pursued a very short distance to where he became stuck in some snow.
The 43-year-old male driver was arrested without incident and is now facing charges of mischief, flight from police, refusing to take a breath test, possession of cocaine and marijuana and breach of an undertaking. Police had earlier dealt with this male over a domestic issue. The accused was remanded in custody.
• New Year’s Eve, although very lively with bar patrons and house parties and traffic, was extremely well-behaved and quiet from a police perspective.
• The Weyburn police are investigating a complaint of a hit-and-run vehicle collision occurring in the 100 block of Fourth Street on Dec. 28. A witness was able to provide a plate number of the offending vehicle and the matter is under active investigation.
• City police were called to assist a 30-year-old female in retrieving personal property from her former residence. The assistance was given with no issues arising.
• Weyburn police received information that a 35-year-old male had been assaulted by a 56-year-old male on New Year’s Day.The victim had been located by the RCMP and taken to hospital where he later left against medical advice. The matter is still under investigation.
• While on patrol at one of the bars on Jan. 1, police members witnessed a minor altercation between two patrons. Police were able to intervene before the matter got out of hand and assisted each person in getting home safely.
• The Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop on the 300 block of Railway Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
As the result of the stop, the 22-year-old male driver was issued a ticket for driving while suspended and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
