City police investigate several break-and-enters, suspicious SUV

City police attended to a business office for a report of a break-and-enter on Wednesday. Entrance had been gained by prying a door, though nothing was reported stolen. The investigation into this incident continues.
Police received a complaint of suspicious transactions on a complainant’s credit card on Aug. 30. The investigation continues, though it would appear this is a case of identity theft.
Weyburn police attended to a local business on Second Avenue SW for a reported break-and-enter on Wednesday. Entrance had been gained by prying a side door, and money and alcohol was reported stolen. The investigation into this incident continues.
The city police were called around 3 p.m. on Saturday regarding suspicious persons and a suspicious vehicle near a downtown business. Police located a white SUV, Alberta plate BVT9191 and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns, and the vehicle was last seen westbound on grid road 82. The subsequent investigation determined the license plate had been stolen, and the matter continues to be investigated.
City police attended to a report of a break-and-enter at a residence in the 200 block of Third Street S on Friday. Entrance had been gained through an unlocked door, and electronics were reported stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
While on patrol a member of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a vehicle stop on Aug. 30 after the vehicle’s driving actions brought it to the attention of police. The subsequent investigation determined the vehicle had been taken without the owner’s consent. As a result two males, both young offenders aged 14 and 15, were charged and will be appearing in court at a later date.
The Weyburn police received a fraud complaint on Aug. 30 after the complainant advised police that after having computer problems and purchasing an online program, an “accidental” over deposit was put into their bank account. The company then requested the overage be wired back to the individual on the phone. The complainant complied wiring money, then felt it might be a scam and advised police. During the course of the investigation police were able to stop the wire cash transfer so the complainant was not out any money. The investigation into this incident continues.
As a reminder the Weyburn Police would like everyone to know that Internet and telephone frauds are attempted on a regular basis. If asked to wire money, or if receiving a phone call demanding money from a company or organization that you do not know, do not become a victim by sending any money or giving personal credit card information. Advise your local police service if you have been contacted in this manner.
Weyburn police were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of First Avenue on Aug. 30. As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old male was charged with driving without due care and attention.
Members of the Weyburn Police Service were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at First Street NE and Coteau Avenue on Thursday. The accident resulted in one driver being transported to hospital by EMS to be assessed. As a result of the investigation, a 72-year-old male driver was charged with proceeding through a stop sign before it was safe to do so.
Members of the Weyburn police were dispatched to a local resident in regard to a domestic situation on Friday. The situation was mediated and no arrests were made at that time, though later in the day and through subsequent investigation, the 19-year-old male involved was arrested and charged with threatening.
Members of the Weyburn Police Service attended to a local bar on Saturday, after a police member on patrol observed a fight in progress. The fight was broken up and the two males, both 25 years old, were charged under the City of Weyburn bylaw for fighting in a public place.
While on patrol, a member of the Weyburn Police Service observed a vehicle being driven with the passenger doors open on Sunday. As a result, the vehicle was stopped and the driver showed visible signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation the driver, a 32-year-old female, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. She was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
As a result of an investigation on Sunday, the Weyburn Police Service laid charges of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking, a 38-year-old male will appear in court at a later date.
