City police involved in short high-speed chase

City police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 39 near Sims Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. The incident involved two vehicles which were driving at a fast and erratic rate of speed.

City police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 39 near Sims Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. The incident involved two vehicles which were driving at a fast and erratic rate of speed. Both vehicles failed to stop resulting a short police pursuit. The pursuit was terminated within a short time period by police once speeds reached in excess of 170 km/h. This may be related to an incident having occurred earlier in RCMP jurisdiction. The only description available of the suspect vehicles is a dark-coloured Dodge truck and a light-coloured car.
• City police received a complaint of what appears to have been a road rage incident occurring on Government Road between Prairie Avenue and First Avenue North at about 1:10 p.m on Sunday. The matter is still under investigation.  The suspect vehicles are described as a red 2013 F150 pickup and a gold-coloured truck.
• The city police were called around 3 p.m. on Sept. 3 regarding suspicious persons and a suspicious vehicle near a downtown business. Police located a white SUV, Alberta plate BVT9191 and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns, and the vehicle was last seen westbound on grid road 82. The subsequent investigation determined the license plate had been stolen, and the matter continues to be investigated.

• City police received a report of mischief and graffiti done to buildings in the 900 block of Saskatchewan Drive on Sept. 6.
• Police received a request to remove an unwanted person from a residence on Sept. 6. The person was removed without incident but returned to the residence causing problems, and was subsequently arrested for causing a disturbance.
• The Weyburn Police CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop just after midnight on Sept. 7. The stop resulted in a 21-year-old male being charged with various traffic offences which also led to his vehicle being impounded.
• City police received a report of an erratic driver failing to stop for pedestrians in the Douglas Road area around noon on Friday. The suspect vehicle is described as a red Dodge crewcab truck being driven by a male with a large beard.
• The Weyburn police received a call from a local business regarding a client who had uttered threats to the business and employees on Friday. The 32-year-old suspect was spoken to and cautioned about his actions.
• The Weyburn police received a report of a 40-year-old male being unlawfully in a residence on Friday. The investigation determined that this was a domestic dispute between the male and the 38-year-old home-owner. The matter was mediated.
 • City police wish to continue to remind the motoring public that the speed limit at all schools has changed to 30 km/h and is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  
• Weyburn police attended to a report of a break-and-enter in the 1000 block of First Avenue NE on Sept. 1. Entrance had been gained through a window. A TV and money were reported stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
• City police attended to a business office for a report of a break-and-enter on Aug. 31. Entrance had been gained by prying a door, though nothing was reported stolen. The investigation into this incident continues.
• Police received a complaint of suspicious transactions on a complainant’s credit card on Aug. 30. The investigation continues, though it would appear this is a case of identity theft.
• Weyburn police attended to a local business on Second Avenue SW for a reported break-and-enter on Aug. 31. Entrance had been gained by prying a side door, and money and alcohol was reported stolen. The investigation into this incident continues.
• City police attended to a report of a break-and-enter at a residence in the 200 block of Third Street S on Sept. 2. Entrance had been gained through an unlocked door, and electronics were reported stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
