Estevan’s Downtown Action Committee is planning a street fair in an effort to draw people to downtown businesses, and to attract more local businesses to their association.
Committee member Jennifer Pettitt, who owns the Jenny Joans women’s fashion store, said they will have events for people of all ages from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 1200-block of Fourth Street will be blocked off for the event.
“It will just be a fun time to come in, relax, and enjoy all the things the local merchants have planned, with sidewalk sales and in-store deals and promotions,” said Pettitt.
There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, food trucks, a variety of entertainment and other attractions.
This will be the first time that there has been a street fair in downtown Estevan in a number of years. They hope the public will come and see the variety of businesses that are located downtown. The association’s members also wanted to thank the public for their support.
“We wanted to bring the street fair back and have a fun time,” said Pettitt.
The timing is strategic, since it will happen the day before the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan. The committee believes there will be lots of people around, including some from outside the city who will be in Estevan early for the Games.
“Hopefully we can increase our traffic and have a bigger event,” said Pettitt.
They are also optimistic the street fair will help the committee attract more members. The committee currently has about 15 members, and they are trying to enhance downtown Estevan.
