The South East Cornerstone Public School Division has been able to maintain a steady pace with no major disruptions so far on the financial front.
The division’s board members heard that promising news from their financial personnel on April 22 during an online business meeting. It was their first regular meeting since the pandemic began.
Marilyn Yurkiw from the division’s financial office, reported some additional grants had been forwarded and revenue and expenses had lined up in concert with no major warning signs.
Yurkiw noted a more complete financial picture would surface in time for the next meeting slated for May 20. That meeting will follow a scheduled budget preparation meeting on May 6.
“We will decide on May 6 what we will have to look for, because we really don’t know what’s surfacing tomorrow,” said Audrey Trombley, board chairwoman.
Earlier in the meeting during the presentation of the personnel report, Lynn Little, the director of education, noted that on the personnel side, “We usually have a hiring fair and an introduction to new teachers. We couldn’t do that this year but the superintendents had virtual interviews. It’s definitely different from previous years.”
In her opening remarks at the board meeting, Trombley said she had fielded several calls from parents who expressed appreciation for the efforts being made by the division to continue bringing educational opportunities to their students.
