With bells and whistles and holiday cheer, the CP Holiday Train is set to roll into Weyburn on Thursday, December 19 to help the Salvation Army collect food donations.

The train will pull in on the Soo Line alongside Railway Avenue between Fourth and Sixth Streets and be lit up with festive decorations. Entertainers on the train pulling into Weyburn include The Claytones, Willy Porter, Tracy Brown and Roxanne Potvin.

The show starts at 7:45 but spectators are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 or earlier to get a good view of the train and give their food donations to the Salvation Army. CP Rail will also be making a donation of money to the Weyburn Salvation Army prior to the performances.

Items food banks need most are pasta, rice, canned meats and fish, dry or canned soups and stews, canned fruit and vegetables, cereal, powdered milk, juice, pasta sauce, beans and legumes and non-perishable baby food and products.

This event marks the 14th year the Holiday Trains have been in operation and in that time they have covered more than 100,000 miles, handed out over a quarter of a million candy canes to children and collected in excess of three million pounds of food for North American food banks. It takes the 30 CP staff about 100 days to transform and decorate the Holiday Trains before they begin their journey.
