The fresh smell of spring is in the air and it’s pulling the residents of Creighton Lodge outdoors to walk or just sit in the sun for awhile. There will once again, be lots of activity going on here as we will be getting the landscaping done soon. We will also be getting a concrete slab laid for the gazebo and concrete poured for a sidewalk under the front windows. We can’t wait until it’s all done.
April was a busy month. We had Freddie and the Freebies, Kell and Del, the Happy Wanderers, Bob Olson and the Church of Christ singers entertain us. We are so appreciative to all of these folks as they take the time to haul their equipment into our lounge and play such great music for us. Thanks to them all.
We were sad to say goodbye to our Monday exercise helper, Audrey Dupuis. All the residents want to extend a big thank you to Audrey for her years of helping them with their program. It is a big commitment to come here week in and week out, rain or shine, to keep us moving. Thanks also to our other ladies, Sharon Daymen, Monica MacKenzie and Irene Tarnes for their continued support.
We honoured four of our longtime volunteers, Doreen Dirks, Margaret Mack, Marge Heidinger and Jean Delorme by treating them to the Women of Today luncheon. We were joined by a few residents to show our appreciation for all the hours they give us during our monthly birthday party and also on our KFC night. They truly make it so much fun. We love having them.
We shopped again on April 19 when Lyn’s Clothes Line set up in the lounge for us to peruse the new spring and summer clothes. As always, many of us went out of there with a bag of clothes.
The Creighton Lodge Songbirds are faithful members every Wednesday at 11 a.m. We gather to sing and have a lot of laughs, too. We are always looking for new members.
Thanks goes to Christina Wock for the visits we get with her therapy dogs and to her mom, Joan who calls our Bingo numbers. We sure count on a lot of volunteers around here to keep our activity programs going.
Our guest artists are still coming every other Tuesday to work on a special project with some of the ladies who live at the lodge. We’re anxious to see the finished product.
The Brownies from Estevan came over one evening to do some activities with us. We so appreciate the groups of children who spend time with us. We also want to thank the public library staff who bring our library over here once a month so we can keep ourselves in reading material.
The churches of Estevan support our spiritual needs every Sunday with a worship service and we look forward to that on Sunday afternoons. We also have Mass with Father Cornelius Lucy on Friday and Communion with Trinity Lutheran on the first Wednesday. Thanks to all the folks involved with those activities.
The special event this month was the fundraiser dinner held at the Days Inn to raise money for the badly needed parking lot paving. We were very successful with our dinner, auctions and diamond ring draw, raising over $13,000 for this big project. It was a grand evening attended by 120 people from a few residents, staff and family members to folks from all the supporting rural municipalities and the community of Estevan. The Days Inn provided the most wonderful meal and it really was a gala event.
As May is now here, we look forward to finishing the outside projects so the place is in top shape for our grand opening of the new lounge which will happen in June. Stay tuned.
