Weyburn's East Indian Gujarati Community are celebrating the Indian Cultural Navratri Festival. The celebration will take place on Friday, Oct. 12, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at the Upper Grace Hall of the Grace United Church.

The celebration will take place on Friday, Oct. 12, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at the Upper Grace Hall of the Grace United Church. All Indians and Canadian friends are welcome.
The Navratri Festival is traditionally a nine-day Indian festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Shakti.
Shakti is the original cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are believed to move through the entire universe in Hinduism. Shakti is often referred to as "The Great Divine Mother."
During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti are worshiped.
During the evening there will be Raas-Garba, an Indian form of dance that originated in the Gujarat region of India. There will also be cultural songs and traditional dance with recorded audios.
Raas-Garba will start at 8 p.m. and Mataji's Aarti will be around 11:30 p.m.
Mataji's Aarti is a form of worship to Mataji, who is worshipped as the embodiment of the Divine Mother, Shakti, the Cosmic force.
Snacks and cold drinks will be provided during break time. Donations will be appreciated for the event.
