It was an evening for Estevan Comprehensive School students and educators to shine as the fruits of their labour were put on display on June 1 in the school’s Cafetorium.
The students were applauded and rewarded for their successes in the classrooms and on the stage during the academic year that is quickly coming to a close. Their instructors could also be afforded some smiles and laughs as they also saw the results of their endeavours, those students, make their way to the spotlit stage to pick up scholarships, bursaries, and medals of achievement.
For some students, the financial rewards were significant, in the range of $1,000 to $3,000 with some of them heading to the stage multiple times to be rewarded for their extra efforts.
Some of the major plaques and trophies were handed out for proficiency such as those earned by Tatiana Dutka, Avery Dechief and Carly Kreklewich for their works in grades 10, 11 and 12, respectively.
Or there was the first-time award of a scholarship provided by Enbridge Pipelines, named on behalf of that company’s Farmer Appreciation Night involvement. This award was captured by a couple of deserving students, Madison Frehlick and Abbie Reich.
Businesses, service clubs, educational institutions and individual donors who respect the value of secondary school education, provided the funds, cerficates and the hardware to make the evening complete.
In all, a total of 98 awards were handed out under the direction of ECS Principal Pat Jeannot, who served as master of ceremonies for the event.
The evening concluded with the announcement of the Mr. and Miss ECS winners at each grade level following the announcement of the 10 top honour roll students in Grades 10, 11 and 12.
The Mr. and Miss ECS for Grade 9 this year were Levi Stepp and Taylor Courteau. The Grade 10 Mr. and Miss duo were Carter Davenport and Tatania Dutka. The Grade 11 winners were Marshall Littlefield and Tia Dayman while Jarrett Daoust and Alyssa Cunningham took the title for Grade 12.
A complete list of all the award winners has been posted on the Estevan Mercury website.
