The Estevan Police Service’s (EPS) birthday celebration initiative has been well-received since it was launched last week.

The EPS has helped 11 young people in the community celebrate their birthday. Additional birthday events are planned.

They’ll go to the house of the birthday child, and drive by while honking their horns. Sirens and lights are on as well.

The birthday child is presented with a card from the EPS. Social distancing is maintained with the birthday celebrations.

The idea was introduced to Estevan last week by the EPS in an effort to give children a great memory for their birthdays, in an era of social distancing and restrictions on public gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monica Rae, the community programming officer for the Estevan Police Service, said these activities allow kids to know that the police are thinking of them, while adhering to these restrictions.

Those who would like to make an arrangement for a birthday visit from the EPS can call 306-634-4767 or send them an email.
