EPS called regarding scams, theft and break-in

Members of the Estevan Police Service continue to deal with complaints regarding attempted scams. The complainants received a call from an individual saying they won a prize on the STARS Air Ambulance lottery.

Members of the Estevan Police Service continue to deal with complaints regarding attempted scams. 

The complainants received a call from an individual saying they won a prize on the STARS Air Ambulance lottery. The caller indicated that a money order had to be issued and a deposit paid in order for the winner to claim their prize. 

No money was exchanged and the incident was reported to police on June 10.  

Police remind the public that it is definitely a scam when there is a request for a deposit or money in order for you to claim any winnings.

Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line June 10. The vehicle was located and it was determined the driver was not impaired. The driver was cautioned that their manner of driving made the complainant concerned enough to call the police.

Members are investigating a reported theft of property from a local business.

The theft is believed to have taken place in the evening of June 5 and was reported June 9. Further details will be released as they are learned. The matter is still under investigation.

Police attended to the local skate park to speak to a group of youths that were using the facility when the park is still closed due to COVID-19. The youths had been asked to leave by the facility staff but refused. Police attended and warned the youth and sent them on their way. The skate park is to open June 12.

Members received a report of an all-terrain vehicle being operated in Willow Park Greens Home Park on June 8. Officers attended and located the operator and the all terrain vehicle. The operator was warned.

Police received a report of a possible scam. The victim reported that someone called, claiming to be a telemarketer. The victim supplied personal information to the caller. Police remind the public not to provide personal information to unsolicited callers. This matter is still under investigation.

Officers arrested a 25-year-old Estevan man for break and enter, uttering threats and failing to comply with a conditional sentence June 7 after a complaint of a male kicking in a door in an apartment building on Isabelle Street. The man was lodged in cells and was brought before a judge.
