The Estevan Police Service has implemented a mask policy for its members.
Starting Sept. 23, officers are to be wearing masks when responding to calls for service. Effective Sept. 24, anyone attending the station is also asked to wear a mask.
In other recent police news, the Estevan Police Service (EPS) continues to investigate reports of mischiefs from around the city.
Spray paint has been applied at locations along Perkins Street and another on a dumpster on Eva Street.
The Estevan RCMP sent out a joint advisory on Sept. 22 through the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network (www.saskcrimewatch.ca), indicating similar incidents had occurred outside the city as well. One documented incident was at Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football’s Chow Field, and more occurred in Roche Percee.
Initials ACAB were spray painted in each circumstance. It's an acronym for "All Cops Are Bad."
If anyone has information about these crimes, they can call the EPS or the Estevan RCMP as the incidents are believed to be related. The EPS will have members conducting foot patrols and will be out patrolling on bikes as well. If anyone notices any suspicious activity occurring, please do not hesitate to call.
Also, officers were called Sept. 23 to assist with a matter Wednesday in which a person had been dealing with a medical issue and wandered off. Police service dog (PSD) Max was deployed, and following a successful track, the subject was located safe and unharmed. He was transported to hospital for treatment
An Estevan woman was arrested for breaching her conditional sentence order. She will appear in court Sept. 24.
Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line on Sept. 21. Members were unable to locate the vehicle. The registered owner will receive a letter in the mail advising that the police received a complaint about the manner in which the vehicle was being operated.
Officers received a report of mischief to a vehicle in the Trojan subdivision. The matter is still under investigation.
Police received a request to do a wellbeing check on an elderly individual. The caller was attempting to telephone the individual and wasn’t having any success. Police attended and the individual was fine. The phone at the residence wasn’t completely hung up.
Police were advised of loud music. Officers attended and talked to the property owner. The owner was warned under the city bylaw.
