Members of the Estevan Police Service arrested a few impaired drivers on the weekend.
Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Bienfait on July 9. He was charged for impaired driving and operating a vehicle while over .08, and was released later in the night. The vehicle he was driving was also seized and his driver’s licence was suspended.
Estevan police made a traffic stop on the east end of the city on July 10 at around 5 p.m. The male driver was arrested after drugs were detected using the roadside screening device. He was taken to the hospital for blood samples. The male was released from custody, pending results of his blood samples. His driver’s licence was suspended and his car was seized.
Police arrested another impaired driver shortly after 2:00 a.m. He was brought back to the Estevan police station, where he refused to provide samples of breath. He was released to a sober relative early in the morning and will face criminal charges for impaired driving and refusal to provide a breath sample.
Police stopped several other vehicles that night and also spoke to several pedestrians. There was an increased amount of people out with the COVID restrictions lifting early on July 11. Everyone was enjoying themselves and no major issues arose.
