Residents of the Estevan area got a little bit more in touch with the spirit world on Sunday evening. Theresa Caputo Live: The Experience came to the Energy City on June 13, with numerous guests present, eager to see the medium in action. Caputo received a warm welcome with the red carpet, literally, being rolled out for her, covering the main floor of Affinity Place, where most of the 2,100 guests in attendance sat for the event.
Caputo, known for her starring role in the TLC reality TV series Long Island Medium, interacted with guests, with a thoroughly blunt and sassy stage presence—one that elicited many laughs from the audience, and helped break the ice for the rest of the evening. There were plenty of other funny moments throughout the evening. Caputo noted that levity and love are integral to communicating with spirits of the departed.
“I think some people look at me like I’m different. I just have the ability to get into contact with everyone else’s loved ones. I’m not afraid to say what it is that your loved ones want me to say,” said Caputo at the beginning of the event. “I can guarantee you’ll hear exactly what you need to hear.”
Caputo emphasized at the beginning of the event, that she was not so much imparting anything, as much as it was a message being sent through her, via personal intuitions and physical sensations she described, that served as hints and clues she used to piece together guest’s narratives.
Caputo spent most of the time interacting with the audience, rather than just speaking. The show was very intimate, on account of the fact that she only spent a short period of time actually on stage.
For most of the event, Caputo moved among the rows of seats where the audience sat, on the main floor of Affinity place. She spontaneously chose people to speak with, driven by, what she described, as a spiritual force, asserting that she was being compelled by the departed friends and relatives of people in the audience.
Very quickly, Caputo went from speaking about seemingly mundane things like tattoos and personal items or traits of audience members, to determining, with surprising acuity and detail, personal stories and the circumstances of their losses. Often, stories would take shape after Caputo would intuit a key word or phrase that would elicit memories from the many audience members to whom she spoke, figuring out details as she went.
Caputo, after a series questions, would very quickly determine what sort of loss each person endured in their life, revealing, with the questions focusing closer and closer to each audience member’s circumstances, who they lost, what sort of relationship they had with that person and what sort of message the spirit of that departed friend or family member had for them.
Audience reactions to Caputo’s ability to speak about personal histories through simple questions varied. Some guests were immediately shocked, some became emotional, while others were guarded and reluctant to speak at first, in many cases, coming around and opening up about their loved ones, once Caputo triggered the right memories through her intuitive process. One thing in common with many audience members is that after talking to Caputo, there was a sense of closure for them.
