Estevan Police investigating theft at the Legion office

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) is investigating a break-and-enter and theft that occurred at the Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch last week. The theft is believed to have occurred on the afternoon of May 9, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) is investigating a break-and-enter and theft that occurred at the Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch last week.

The theft is believed to have occurred on the afternoon of May 9, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., prior to the Legion’s Bingo that night. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the building. 

If anyone saw any suspicious activity around the Legion just prior to the Bingo, or if anyone has any knowledge of the incident, they are asked to call the EPS at 306-634-4767 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

In other police news, police arrested 23-year-old Aaron Elder during the May 9 day shift. Elder has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and breaching his release conditions, stemming from an incident in the city on May 8. Elder made his first court appearance on May 10 and was released on conditions.

Police received a couple of reports of hit-and-run collisions from the Walmart and Estevan Shoppers Mall parking lots. The collisions remain under investigation.

Members responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Eighth Street. One vehicle had to be towed from the scene. There were no reported injuries.

Police are also investigating a man who was in possession of stolen property, in connection with a previous file involving a fraud. 

Members received a call from a business on the north side of the city during the May 10 day shift. The caller told police that a man was exposing himself to women. A 42-year-old Regina man was located and arrested. Police are continuing to investigate and have uncovered two other incidents that occurred at neighbouring businesses on May 6 and 9. The man is looking at three separate charges of committing an indecent act. He appeared before a justice of the peace on May 10.

A vehicle was stopped in northeast Estevan during the May 11 day shift for a driving-related offence. An odour of marijuana was noted from the vehicle and a 33-year-old man from B.C. was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in Estevan court in early June to answer to the drug charge and the driving infraction.

Police were called to an Estevan residence during the May 11 night shift because a man may have been unlawfully in a dwelling. Through speaking with witnesses it was determined the man had been invited to the residence by one of the homeowners. No further action was required.

Officers then received a call about a vehicle parked on the yellow curbing at the corner of 14th Avenue and Fourth Street. The vehicle had been moved prior to police arrival. 

Police have been seeing an increase in the number of Canada Revenue Agency scam calls. If anyone has received any of these calls, do not give out any personal information or send any money via Western Union. For further information, people can visit the Canada Revenue Agency’s website or contact the agency by telephone.

Officers conducted a mini traffic blitz on Wellock Road and in the 1700-block of First Street on May 12, due to the ongoing number of calls for vehicles exceeding the speed limits in reduced speed zones. Police issued a number of speeding tickets at each location, and will continue to monitor and enforce the lower speed limits around playgrounds and schools.

Police responded to a complaint of two vehicles driving erratically on King Street during the May 12 night shift. License plate numbers for the vehicles were obtained. One of the vehicles was located and a ticket was issued.

Members responded to a Report Impaired Drivers call to north Estevan. The driver was located but did not record over the legal limit. The matter remains under investigation, though, as multiple witnesses have come forward to provide statements regarding the driving actions of the motorist. Once the investigation is complete, he could face a charge of driving without due care and attention.

Police were responding to the driving complaint when another call for an erratic driver came in. Officers could not immediately respond to the area but the witness did get a license plate number for a follow-up investigation. Police continue to look into the matter.

A 21-year-old man was arrested in the alley just off the 1100-block of Fourth Street. The man was able to get away from the officer but was captured a short distance away. He is facing charges of escaping lawful custody, obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty and breaching conditions of his probation.  

Officers attended the annual youth conference at Spruce Ridge School during the May 13 day shift, and provided a safety talk to Grade 3 to 5 students.

Police responded to multiple noise complaints during the May 13 night shift. One was for a barking dog in south Estevan, and another was for children making excessive noise at a playpark.

Members were called to a south Estevan residence during the May 14 day shift, due to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute. The matter was defused upon police arrival.

Police were then dispatched to a central Estevan business for a reported theft. Police apprehended and arrested a 45-year-old Estevan woman a short distance away, at which time she was transported to the police station, where she was charged with assaulting a police officer, uttering threats, resisting arrest and theft. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance in Estevan on June 20.

Officers conducted walkthroughs and spoke with the public during the Savour the Southeast event on May 14 at Affinity Place. The police did not report any incidents stemming from the event.

Police warned several homeowners about noisy parties throughout the city.

Officers mediated a property dispute during the May 15 day shift, after a complaint was made to the EPS.

Members are investigating a mischief incident at a local business, where a door was tampered with.

Officers responded to a complaint of dirt bikes being operated within the city limits. The homeowner and the riders were warned of the bylaw.

Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the Hillcrest area during the May 15 night shift. Nobody was located in the vicinity, but the EPS would like to thank the people in the area for being vigilant and reporting suspicious activity.
