A rally will be happening in Estevan on Thursday morning to create awareness of the challenges facing children around the world.

Named #savethechildren, it will start at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Estevan Courthouse. People are encouraged to wear blue, make blue signs or bring anything blue, since that is the colour of child abuse awareness.

Local organizer Amber Hagel said similar events are happening across Canada and the U.S., and she wanted to see something here.

“Where ever there are children, there is abuse of children. They are the most vulnerable part of our society. Let’s protect them.”

Hagel encourages people to bring a snack and a blanket and to sit together afterwards and talk about what they can do to help. They will likely stand in front of the court house at some point with their signs.

People need to take a stand against issues such as exploitation, abuse and trafficking of children, and she believes there should be harsher punishments for those who commit these crimes.
