An extreme cold warning has been issued for southeast Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada issued the advisory at 3:29 p.m., saying an arctic ridge of high pressure has allowed for a very cold air mass from the north to sink over southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba.
Along with winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour, extreme wind chill values of -40 C or colder will spread across southern regions of the Prairies Friday night. Some areas may rebound slightly from these bitterly cold values Saturday afternoon but extreme cold warnings will likely remain in place for Saturday night into Sunday morning as well.
These bitterly cold values will remain in the Prairies into next week.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter.
Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
