Icing Smiles is a non-profit organization the started in the USA and has recently expanded into Canada. Icing Smiles provides cakes free of charge to sick children in hopes of putting a smile on the child's face perhaps even for a just a moment and providing a few moments of escape for the entire family. Bakers need to apply to be approved by the organization and fully donate their time and the cake to the child. Individuals wishing to set up a cake for a child can apply online at icingsmilescanada.ca

Icing Smiles matches a child in need with a baker in their area and the child gets to express what kind of cake and decorations they would like to receive.

As with all non-profit groups there are still expenses. To help offset the costs of running the organization a cake decorating challenge has been set for September 28. The challenge will see cakes provided by local bakers being decorated by local 'celebrities' and later auctioned. The event takes place at the Weyburn curling rink during the Festival of Leaves Craft and Trade Sale which is being held in conjunction with the Weyburn Multi-Cultural Festival.

If you are a baker and are willing to donate supplies needed for a 'celebrity' to decorate a cake or if you would like to nominate a 'celebrity' to show their cake decorating talents, please contact event organizer Lisa Vick 306-842-0025 [email protected].
