There are 57 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Wednesday, bringing the total to 2,496 cases.
Seventeen cases are in the north central region, 14 are in the Saskatoon region and 11 are from the Regina area. There are also seven from the central east, four from the northeast, two from the central west, and single cases for each of the northwest and far northeast regions.
Public health investigations are underway to determine the source of transmission for all new cases. Saskatoon’s new cases continue to be primarily linked with outbreaks at local nightclubs.
Of the 2,496 reported cases, 469, or about 18.8 per cent, are considered active.
Fifteen more people have recovered, bringing Saskatchewan’s total to 2,002 recoveries, or 80.2 per cent of those diagnosed.
Seventeen people are in hospital. Fifteen people are receiving inpatient care; seven in the Saskatoon zone, five in the north central region, two in the Regina zone and one in the central east zone. Two people are in intensive care, one in Saskatoon and one in Regina.
There have been 472 cases from the south area (227 southwest, 210 south central, 35 southeast). Twelve of the cases in the southeast are considered active; 11 of the active cases for the southeast region are from Southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan.
As for the rest of the province, 539 cases are from the Saskatoon region, 443 cases are from the north area (154 northwest, 194 north central, 95 northeast), 415 cases are from the far north area (371 far northwest, 0 far north central, 44 far northeast), 347 cases are from the central area (195 central west, 152 central east) and 280 cases are from the Regina area
Of the 2,496 cases in the province to date, 332 cases are travellers, 1,215 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 674 have no known exposures and 275 are under investigation by local public health.
Eighty-two cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.
A total of 463 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 866 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 730 are in the 40-59 age range, 361 are in the 60-79 age range and 76 are in the 80-plus range.
Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.
Twenty-five deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.
To date, 238,013 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Oct. 19, when other provincial and national numbers are available, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 162,549 people tested per million population. The national rate was 234,139 people tested per million population.
There were 2,483 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
