Five city residents arrested for drug offences

A six-week investigation by the combined Weyburn and Estevan Police Service’s Integrated Organized Crime Unit concluded on Sunday, with five individuals arrested and charged with a total of 40 drug and Criminal Code-related offences.

A six-week investigation by the combined Weyburn and Estevan Police Service’s Integrated Organized Crime Unit concluded on Sunday, with five individuals arrested and charged with a total of 40 drug and Criminal Code-related offences.
As well, a search warrant was executed on Saturday at a downtown residence which resulted in a small marijuana grow being discovered as well a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition being seized.
Charged were a 25-year-old male for trafficking marijuana, producing/growing marijuana, as well as a number of firearm-related offences; a 23-year-old female was charged with producing/growing marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking as well as a number of firearm-related offences.
Also charged was a 23-year-old male for trafficking in cocaine, a 29-year-old male charged with trafficking in cocaine and a 48-year-old female who is charged with trafficking cocaine and trafficking Fentanyl.
The accused have since been released from custody and will be making their first court appearances in May. The Weyburn Police Service as well as the Weyburn Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Government Road and Highway 39 on Wednesday. Both drivers received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The damage to the vehicles resulted in both needing to be towed from the intersection. A 77-year-old male was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to obey a red light.
The Weyburn Police Service attended to a local business in regard to a break-and-enter and theft complaint on Friday. Once inside the suspects ransacked the offices stealing a small amount of cash. There is no suspect at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
City police attended to the intersection of Fifth Street and First Avenue for a two-vehicle accident on Feb. 28. One vehicle was attempting to stop but due to road conditions was unable to and slid into the other vehicle. No charges were laid.
Weyburn police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot of a local restaurant on Wednesday. There were no injuries, although one vehicle was not driveable due to the damage. A 44-year-old male was given a written warning for driving without due care and attention.
Weyburn police conducted a short traffic blitz focused on the SGI target of the month, that being the use of cellular phones on Thursday. Over a two-hour period, three tickets for the use or manipulation of a cellular device was issued. Tickets for this offence have a fine of $280 as well as demerit points on the driver’s license. Police advise that distracted driving continues to be a leading factor in accidents, so drivers are urged to put their cell away and pay attention to the road when driving.
City police received calls of a vehicle hitting the garbage bins in the 500 block of King Street on Thursday. A total of five garbage bins were destroyed. Police patrolled the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. The investigation would indicate the vehicle was an older Ford truck and possibly two-toned blue and white. The incident remains under investigation.
Police received a call of a mischief complaint, after a vehicle which had been parked at a downtown business was ‘keyed’ on Thursday. There are no suspects as yet and the incident remains under investigation.
City police conducted a vehicle check on Feb. 26 and noticed the driver displaying signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver, a 36-year-old male, was subsequently arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
Police received a call of a suspicious vehicle on Feb. 28. When the vehicle was located the driver was found to have a warrant for his arrest. The 35-year-old male was arrested and later released from custody and is to appear in court in Regina in April.
Weyburn police attended to a report of a gas drive-off from a local business on Feb. 28. The incident remains under investigation.
City police attended to a local residence in regard to a domestic assault on Wednesday. Upon police arrival the one party had left the home. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Weyburn police were dispatched for a male causing a disturbance at a local restaurant on Thursday. The situation was mediated and no charges were laid.
Police attended to a local establishment after receiving a call on Saturday that a male was causing problems and would not leave. Police located a 31-year-old male who was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and was lodged in cells. He was charged for remaining in a liquor outlet after being requested to leave and was later released from custody when sober.
