Over 2,000 local Facebook users will be supporting the "Heaven's Flowered Highway" event on Sunday, August 25.
The event is promoted on Facebook, and encouraged Weyburn and Estevan residents to show their support to twin Highways 39 and 6.
During the week leading up to Aug. 25, residents are encouraged to place flowers at the site in memory of their loved ones who lost a life on those highways. One doesn't have to actually leave flowers on the highway to show their support.
Residents are advised to be careful when participating in this event. Do not park on the side of the highway, instead find an approach and park there, then walk to the site to place the flowers.
This is to remember and honour the loved ones that have left us and to bring awareness of the dangers of this highway.
Pictures from the Highway's Garden will be sent to as many governments as possible. There is also a Facebook page called "Heaven's Flowered Highway" where residents can join to show their support for the event. Even if a resident is unable to participate during the actual event, by registering themselves as "going", that will demonstrate support to twin the highways.
The Time to Twin Committee out also has an online petition, encouraging the provincial government to twin the highways. Residents can sign the petition by visiting www.change.org.
