Foord receives provincial recognition

Janet Foord, one of two Estevan representatives on the South East Cornerstone Public School Division has been awarded a lifetime membership in the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA).

Janet Foord, one of two Estevan representatives on the South East Cornerstone Public School Division has been awarded a lifetime membership in the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA).

Foord received the award earlier this month and after serving four years on the Canadian School Boards Association (two as president and seven years on the SSBA, with two terms as their president).

Foord stated in the past that moving into provincial and national aspects of governance meant a switch in thinking about various issues since the broader scopes have to be considered as opposed to the local and regional boards of education where more specific local and regional items are addressed.

Foord said she has now served for more than 28 years on local school boards including the former Estevan Rural School Board and now with the South East Cornerstone board that covers the southeast sector of Saskatchewan, encompassing 38 schools and more than 8,400 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 programs.

Regional board members are elected every three years.
