Four new cases, two deaths from COVID-19 reported in Saskatchewan

Two residents of the far north region who tested positive for COVID-19 have died, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health said Monday. One individual was in their 60s and the second was in their 70s.

Two residents of the far north region who tested positive for COVID-19 have died, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health said Monday.

One individual was in their 60s and the second was in their 70s. This brings the total number of deaths in the province to 13.

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan to report. Three are in Saskatoon and one in the far north region.

Of the 654 reported COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan, 17, or about three per cent, are considered active.

One person has recovered from the virus, which means a total of 624 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in Saskatchewan have recovered. The province's recovery rate is at 95 per cent. 

There is currently one person in intensive care, in Saskatoon.

The number of cases for the south region remains at 17. There have been 260 cases from the far north, 173 from the Saskatoon area, 112 from the north, 80 from the Regina area and 12 from the central region.

Of the 654 cases in the province, 144 cases are travellers, 393 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 79 have no known exposures and 38 are under investigation by local public health.

Fifty-one cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.

Ninety-eight cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults.

A total of 232 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 199 are in the 40-59 age range, 107 are in the 60-79 age range and 18 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-two per cent of the cases are females and 48 per cent are males.

To date, 52,229 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of June 6, when other provincial and national numbers were last available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 39,640 people tested per million population. The national rate was 50,462 people tested per million population.
