For the third year in a row children laughed and learned as they partook in the Fête du Soleil, a summer camp held in Wawota each year through Canadian Parents for French (CPF).
Monique Myers, a retired French teacher, began pursuing CPF as a way to encourage youth to learn French outside of the classroom and to hopefully inspire youth to want to become bilingual.
"The kids were reminding their parents of the camp this year because they wanted to come back," Myers happily exclaimed.
This year the camp saw seven youth attend, which although somewhat smaller than past years provides the opportunity for youth to have more speaking opportunities with the help of Michelle Gulka, Breana Lukowski, Rebecca Hoiland, and Brooklyn Barre who were this years' Fête du Soleil instructors.
Activities for the four-day camp included crafts, easy science experiments, games, and fun as youth learned various French words and phrases.
Each day revolved around a particular theme ranging from the theatre to being on the farm, to a dinosaur day.
Intentions of the camp also included creating a geocache in town with a bilingual message in hopes of registering the trinket and for youth to track where the trinket may go around the world.
The geocache may attract more people to the area and is a fun way to interact with others travelling through Wawota.
Fête du Soleil was held from July 8 to 11, with youth thoroughly enjoying their time with the four CPF coordinators and Myers, their former teacher.
