More than one hundred guests bedazzled in sequins, sparkles and finery was part of a 1920’s revival at the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation’s Great Gatsby Gala, which was held February 11 at McKenna Hall.
Cocktails and a scrumptious variety of appetizers prepared by McKenna Hall catering were served by the elegantly attired Weyburn Fire Brigade. A choice of beef or chicken dinner with all the trimmings was presented, finished off by decadent cupcakes from Steph Schmidt for dessert.
It takes many people to bring such an amazing event together. Emcee CJ Mainil recognized the hard work of Angelo and the staff and volunteers at McKenna Auditorium, the Weyburn Fire Brigade, Jessica Hunter Photography, Desired Event Decor (Desiree Pratt), Boston Pizza, Pumpjack’s Saloon and Steakhouse, Brown’s Socialhouse, CAA Travel, Jason Schmidt, Ken and Jasmine Helfrick and Steph Schmidt.
Mal Barber brought greetings from the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation Board, Mayor Marcel Roy spoke on behalf of City Council, and finally Derrell Rodine represented the Sun Country Health Region Board.
“The horn section of this evening’s live entertainment, “The New Montagues”, was outstanding and the lively band had the dance floor packed for the night, including an impressive conga line!” said Stephanie Schmidt, Gala Committee Chair.
Between sets draws were made for the door prize, with Russ Chartrand winning a dinner for four courtesy of Brown’s Socialhouse in Weyburn, and the grand prize draw of a $4,000 CAA Weyburn Travel Voucher going to Lisa Pollock.
The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation continues to raise funds to build and equip a new hospital to serve Weyburn and area. The Foundation has 21.8 million in cash and commitments, with the goal of having sufficient resources in place when the province is ready to commit funds to the project.
