Habitat home progressing very quickly

The progress of construction work on Weyburn's Habitat for Humanity home is moving along well, and the project is on target to have the Dunn family moved in to their new home by around early to mid-November, well in time before Christmas.

"We are finished the drywall and we'll be starting the painting of the interior in the coming week," said Winston Bailey, chair of the Habitat committee.

On the home's exterior, there are about three to four days worth of work to finish the siding and soffits, said Bailey. The rainy, windy weather recently has delayed any of the exterior work from getting done, but the hopes are to finish off the exterior soon.

Once painting of the interior is done, the work will then move to hanging the doors and casings, door jambs and putting in closet shelves, followed by installing the flooring, baseboards and cabinets, "and all those little things," said Bailey, such as the lighting and other fixtures.

"We're still looking for volunteers," he added, and any persons or individuals wanting to volunteer should give Jannette Tonn a call.

Asked how the supply of volunteers has been so far, Bailey said there have been the odd day when they've needed some extra volunteers, "but all in all, it's been fabulous."

Once the home is completed and the Dunn family is able to move in, the turning-over official ceremony will be set, with government officials and other dignitaries to be on hand, with an open house so the public "and especially the volunteers who had a part in helping at the house" will be invited to come and look around, said Bailey.

The date hasn't been set, but should be soon, and information will go out about when the official ceremonies will be held.
