Editor’s note: This is a weekly feature in the Estevan Mercury in an effort to recognize front-line Health Care workers at St. Joseph’s Hospital. We thank the St. Joseph’s Hospital for sponsoring this article and for submitting the write-up, and we applaud all health care workers and other essential services workers for their efforts during this pandemic.
This week’s focus is the Emergency Department.
The ER serves our community with Emergency Care, Chemotherapy Treatments, Outpatient Medical Procedures and Visiting Specialists Services. The care is provided in the ER by Nursing, Physicians, Lab & X-ray, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Admin Clerks, Paramedics, Pharmacy, STARS and more.
With services ranging from Trauma to Chemotherapy, the work by this team is diverse. The St. Joseph’s ER is one of nine Primary Stroke Centres in Saskatchewan and the only in South East Saskatchewan. Utilizing a Trauma Room, 4 Emergency Bays and several specialty rooms, our staff serves our community 365 days per year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the staff to be ready for service and in addition to their regular full time duties they have provided COVID-19 Swab testing and have prepared specifically for any situation that should arrive during the pandemic. The ER remains open for Emergency Services during the Pandemic.
Thank you to our Health Care Heroes at the Emergency Department of St. Joseph’s Hospital of Estevan.
