The Weyburn Humane Society wrapped up their cat adoption blitz recently and after roughly one month of reduced adoption fees for kittens and spayed or neutered cats, nearly 25 cats were adopted out.
"It was really successful. We're really happy about it," said WHS president Kelly Eddy. "This is the first time we did something extreme like this and it worked well. We made sure all the cats went to good homes."
Adoption fees, which are normally $145 for cats or kittens which are not fixed, with a $100 refund upon proof of spay or neuter, were reduced to $50 for kittens and $100 for spayed or neutered adult cats.
The Humane Society dropped their fees because they had an over-abundance of cats and kittens and needed to find them "fur-ever" homes before winter came. Eddy said the Humane Society would consider doing something similar if the need ever arose again.
The shelter is also finalizing plans for a "Raise the Woof" fundraiser. "Raise the Woof" will be held in the King George on Saturday, Nov. 30, and tickets cost $50 and include a chicken or steak dinner and a comedy show including three comedians. All money raised will go to the building fund for the shelter because they are outgrowing their current facilities. Tickets will be available soon at Pharmasave or Superior Office Products, or from Randy Bakaluk, Kelly Eddy, Colleen Morrice, Amber Heath and Pat Anderson.
