Robert Kitchen will be the next member of Parliament for the Souris-Moose Mountain constituency.

Kitchen, who was running for the Conservatives, garnered a convincing victory over three other candidates in Monday night's federal election. Kitchen collected 26,315 of the 37,516 votes cast, or 70.1 per cent of the popular vote, with all 189 polling stations reporting.

“I’m just living on Cloud 9 right now,” Kitchen told the media shortly after he was elected. “It’s just been so much fun. We’ve worked hard at this … it’s been 2 1/2 years to get to this stage.”

Vicky O'Dell of the New Democratic Party was next with 5,131 votes, or 13.7 per cent support. Steven Bebbington of the Liberals finished third with 5,076 votes, or 13.5 per cent support. Bob Deptuck of the Liberals was fourth with 994 votes, or 2.6 per cent support.

Voter turnout in the constituency was at about 72.02 per cent.

But Kitchen won't be in government. The Tories lost their status as the governing party to the Liberals, who will form a majority government under the leadership of Justin Trudeau.
