Lake Alma (cpd) - The Beaubier Lutheran Church had a 100th anniversary celebration on Sept. 15. The festivities started with a service led by Wendy Caldwell, the lay minister, from Ceylon.
Lake Alma (cpd) - The Beaubier Lutheran Church had a 100th anniversary celebration on Sept. 15. The festivities started with a service led by Wendy Caldwell, the lay minister, from Ceylon. Kirk Torkelson read a history of the church from 1913 to present day and it was stated that his father, James Torkelson, was the first baptism after the church was formed. Myrna Lohse read a letter from the Solheims, who were unable to attend. Arthur Solheim was the pastor from 1948 to 1954. Other pastors who served the parish also sent their regrets.
Pastor Gordon Hendrickson, now of Starbuck, Man., pastored the parish from 1983 to 1988 and had the scripture reading. Pastor Ken Grambo, now of Camrose, Alta., gave the sermon. Following the offering, there was special music by "The Lamplighters", who are Sharon Torkelson, Betty Herlick and Heather Torkelson.
They sang "All Because Of God's Amazing Grace".
Pastor Mitch Tolpingrud, now of Karlstad, Minn., led Holy Communion with the aid of other pastors in attendance.
At the end of the service everyone went over to the Beaubier Community Centre where they enjoyed a lunch provided by the women of the church and community, and there was visiting. Everyone returned to the church that afternoon and Pastor Ken Grambo, known as the "Singing Pastor", sang and told Norwegian jokes until everyone again went back to the Centre where they had drinks and the specially decorated cake that had been on display.
People attended from Gladmar, Lake Alma, Beaubier, Weyburn, Camrose and Linden, Alta., White City, Regina, Riverhurst and Starbuck, Man.
Tom and Linda Clausen hosted Neil and Carol Thompson of Riverhurst who arrived on Sept. 13 and went home on Sept. 16. Neil and Tom golfed Saturday and Sunday. Trudy Koszman of Weyburn, also visited on the weekend and joined Carol and Linda at the Beaubier Lutheran Church's 100th anniversary.
Alex and Laurette Fradette celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Weyburn on July 20. The afternoon began with family photos, followed by a catered meal at the Legion. The family spent the evening visiting. In attendance were all of Alex and Laurette's family. Robert and Judy Fradette, Jason, Stephanie, Heidi, Ammy and Andrea Fradette, of Lake Alma; Gerald, Amanda, Kailey, Zander and Dylan Fradette, of Lake Alma; Russell, Jenna, Emily, Zachary and Dominic Marcotte, of Weyburn; Jim and Linda Clarke, from Lloydminster; Devin Clarke and Natasha de Bakker, of Saskatoon; Raina, Blaise, Jace and Sada Bennefield, from Cowichan Bay, B.C.; Jerry and Myrna McGarry, of Medicine Hat; Dustin McGarry, from Calgary; Jordan McGarry, of Calgary; Amanda McGarry, of Edmonton; Harvey, Sharon and Alyson Hlavka, from Minton; Josh, Vanessa, Lily and Jacobi Hlavka, from Manor; Rick, Sharon and Letitia Fradette, of Kitscoty, Alta.. Missing were Jeff and Raynell Clarke of New Zealand, and Blue Bennefield of Cowichan Bay, B.C.
On July 25, Alex, Laurette and all their children and spouses went on a vacation through North Dakota where they took in the musical at Medora, Wyoming and where they viewed Yellowstone National Park, museums and a rodeo in Montana. They camped and made many memories; they were gone a week.
Ken and Wanda Johnson traveled to Estevan on Sept. 17 and took in the Celtic Thunder concert which they reported was excellent.
Sharon and Vernon Solie traveled to Estevan on Sept. 18 where they visited with Verna and Ray Daae and their daughter, Patricia. Vernon, Verna and Patricia all had Birthdays that day so they celebrated all three.
Ken Johnson has been helping Garnet Roysum combine.
The lightning and thunder on Sept. 18 brought varied amounts of rain to the area, so that put a damper on the harvesting for awhile. The farmers were busy getting caught up on repairs and moving grain while waiting for it to dry up.
