The Weyburn and District United Way kicked off the 33rd Annual Communithon fund raiser in Memorial Park with a barbeque on September 5.
This year the Communithon has set their goal of raising $140,000 for the eleven member agencies through the 33 hours of entertainment and action, which will be held at the Cugnet Centre on October 24 and 25.
New for the Communithon is the first annual Communithon Sings. Residents are invited to submit a video performing a chosen song and the top three submissions will be invited to perform at the Communithon.
Entries will be accepted and posted on the United Way Facebook page for voting until October 10.
Weyburn and District United Way president Marlo Prichard said there will also be a Communithon Shopping Cart Challenge. This cart will be stationed at a nominated business and will be moved at the end of the next business day when you donate $10 and a small gift. The gifts will be used as raffle items at the Communithon.
Businesses may move it themselves to another location, or phone to have it moved.
As always, businesses are invited to do their own fundraising activities such as chili cook-offs, dress down days, payroll deductions to raise awareness and funds for the cause, said Prichard.
The eleven member agencies are the Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Canadian Paraplegic Association, Canadian Red Cross, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Weyburn Supportive Employment Services, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Association of Weyburn, Weyburn Caravan Society, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, and Color My World Child Care.
This year's theme is "Let's Work Together."
