Library programs, activities planned for August

There will be a number of activities and programs available at the Weyburn Public Library during the month of August, including a games night, family matinees, a book club session, and teen and adult programs.

There will be a number of activities and programs available at the Weyburn Public Library during the month of August, including a games night, family matinees, a book club session, and teen and adult programs.
There is a family games night on Thursday, August and 24, starting at 7 p.m. both nights, featuring X-box and board games for people of all ages.
The book club will meet on Thursday, Aug. 10, to discuss the John Steinbeck book, “East of Eden”. There will be a discussion of the book and a showing of the film based on the book, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Family matinees this month will include “Big Hero 6” on Saturday, Aug. 12, and “Teen Beach Movie” on Saturday, Aug. 19, both days starting at 2 p.m.
For teen programs, there will be a session on giant mandalas, painting on old LPs to decorate one’s space, on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m., and on Aug. 15, the teens will make dreamcatcher keychains. Space is limited for these programs, so teens are asked to preregister.
A games night and pizza for teens will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 9, featuring X-box and board games, while a movie night will be held on Aug. 16, featuring, “The Edge of Seventeen”. These two evenings are held on a drop-in basis, and start at 6:30 p.m.
For adults, there will be matinee movies on Friday afternoons at 2 p.m. On Aug. 4, “Dances With Wolves”, starring and directed by Kevin Costner, will be featured, with “Rain Man” on Aug. 11, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. “The Sting”, featuring Robert Redford and Paul Newman, will be shown on Aug. 18.
Adults can also take part in the “Colourful Café” every Thursday at 2 p.m., with a wide variety of activities or projects available, including mandala stones, zentangles, stamping, henna tattoos, beading and adult colouring.
Tech times will also be offered for adults, on Mondays, Aug. 14 and 21, at 2 p.m. Adults can drop in if they wish help, or call and book an appointment for one-on-one assistance.
