A local has cracked the dean’s list for academic excellence after the spring 2021 semester at South Dakota State University.

Hunter Wallster, who is a student in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, made the list that was released on Wednesday. Wallster has wrapped up his first year of studies at the school. He committed to South Dakota State to compete in track and field with the Jackrabbits NCAA Division 1 athletics program.

To earn dean's list distinctions in SDSU's colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Wallster was among those with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Overall, nearly 3,200 students from 35 states and 30 foreign nations are on the list. More than 1,350 students received a 4.0.
