The Estevan Salvation Army has recognized a local youth for his commitment to the community.

Zachary Schmidt was presented with the Community Volunteer Award, which is presented each year to a Grade 12 student from the Estevan Comprehensive School for volunteer work.

The students apply through the school with their information and letters of recommendation from the organizations where they volunteer. It is not a requirement that they volunteer with the Salvation Army. The ministry then reviews the applicants and selects a recipient.

The award is usually presented at the school’s awards night, however that did not happen this year.

Schmidt has been active with the Wylie-Mitchell Air Cadets and other organizations in the community.
