A report on different goals for long-term care facilities in the Sun Country Health Region shows there has been improvements made in the care provided, and was released at the monthly board meeting on Wednesday.
The charts compared where Sun Country was rated, compared to the provincial average, to a number of different targets. It was noted that the Ministry of Health has seen success in past submissions and has seen improvements made by the Sun Country Health Region in their facilities. The target for having residents in daily physical restraints is 10.4 per cent. The provincial average is 9.1 per cent, and Sun Country is just above the target at 10.4 per cent. According to the report, there were 58 residents in daily physical restraints, out of 623 patients assessed.
The target for prescribing antipsychotics without a diagnosis is 28 per cent. The provincial average is 23.97 per cent, and Sun Country Health Region is below that average at 23.54 per cent.
A new long-term care intake and placement process went “live” on Feb. 1, 2016. The aim of the new process was to reduce long-term care wait times, to increase consistency related to screening and approval (or denial) of applicants, to develop work standards and improve communications, and to better serve the resident and their family in a timely fashion.
At the end of December, there were 31 clients on the regional list who are waiting for their preferred facility. This is below the median of 34 clients per month.
